Part II: The Digital Builder | Chapter 5
Beyond the Chat Window — Your AI-Powered Workspace

The Goal
By the end of this chapter you will know why a chat window alone is not enough for production work. You will set up a workspace where files, project information, AI help and your applications fit together: a shared project folder in Google Drive, a ChatGPT project with the right files, and a simple log of requests and approvals. You will know what an AI tool can and cannot see on your computer, and how to give it the right context without giving it more access than it needs.
Understand: why the chat window is not enough
In Book 1 you learned to work with AI in conversations: ask, get an answer, improve it. That works for single tasks. Production is different:
| What production needs | What one chat gives you |
|---|---|
| Many files: images, documents, code, drafts | Text in a conversation |
| Context that grows over weeks | Context that starts from zero in every new chat |
| Results inside other applications | Text you copy and paste by hand |
| A record of decisions and approvals | A long thread that is hard to search |
| Work shared with other people | A chat that belongs to one person |
Think of a carpenter. The hammer matters, but without a bench, drawers and a plan on the wall, half the day goes into looking for things. A chat window is the hammer. Production needs the workshop around it.
